"It is a widely accepted notion among painters that it does not matter what one paints as long as it is well painted. This is the essence of academicism. There is no such thing as good painting about nothing." - Mark Rothko
The Oasis was a site specific installation on view at the Photo NY Art Fair in 2006. It was a live sculpture located in the public bathrooms of the fair. The installation consisted of a 100% real live garden inside a bathroom stall in the men's and women' bathroom. The installation aimed to alter the viewers perception of a bathroom visit by transforming an act that is private and juxtaposing it with something that is natural and ephemeral.
Romeo and Juliet represents a transition from old media to new media, a cluttered society that is conflicted with the notion of high art while gorged by mass art. The piece consists of every word --non-repeated-- in the first act of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet as an empty folder on a desktop. The piece is interactive, the viewer can and will decide how these words coexist in the space of the desktop by moving the folders to whatever manner he or she chooses. Because the words don't repeat, the piece only serves to visually adapt a piece of writing without any context. There is no story or arch, full bodied sentences or themes, only a jumble of words creating a beautiful pile of emptiness.
Toilet Paintings are color and shape exercises in oil and mixed media. They are paintings that lack meaning or point, they just serve to study an object and its relationship to color and form.
The Intreactive Station was a site specific installation on view at the underground New York city party Shindig! It consisted of a wireless keyboard in the middle of the party floor connected to a central computer that projected the typed content onto the wall. The installation functioned as an instantaneous live message and comment board by allowing the partygoers to find their own voice and publish their thoughts for everyone to see.
